Gender Reveal: Feb. 18, 2023

Updated: Feb 26

Gender Reveal: Boy or Girl? Our family was excited for my husband and I to be expecting our second baby together! We already had a boy and I had hoped for a girl of my own. Julius and I have two kids together, but I have 2 boys and he has 2 girls and 1 boy prior to our relationship. Yes, I know, a huge, blended family! Many called us crazy for going a round two, but we both wanted two kids with the person we marry.

For our first baby boy on his gender reveal we went all out. Rented out a space at "Goat and Vine," invited friends and family, had matching outfits, a photographer, we literally went all out! This time was different since we were in the middle of planning our wedding so we decided to keep this reveal small and on budget. Besides, how many gender reveals can a couple with 5 other kids have without trying to outdo the last one?

So, on the day of, we met up at my mother- in- laws house to enjoy food and desserts, chat, and reveal our gender. I passed around a little orange notebook with the letter "D" engraved in pink and told each person to write something for the baby inside, along with the gender they thought the baby was. Some of them are quite sentimental and some funny, either way I want to share them with you.

"I hope you guys enjoy your last baby for a few years. I know it's a girl so enjoy your family. Love you guys." -Dave

"Dear grandbaby, I'm totally in love with you already. Always put God 1st and he will never let you DOWN. Your entire family is excited about you and we all can't wait to meet you!! Always shine."

-Ma Laurie

"Hey baby uncle Shane love you" - Shane

"Nephew!! Your family is CRAZY ! But you will be very loved! <3 Can't wait to meet you! Your Auntie Mia" - Samia

"Dear baby: This is really after I guessed the wrong gender of what you would be: But remember to be the best you can be and do the right whatever it may be. Always put God first when make decisions. Love "Nana forever""- Nana

"Hello grandson, It's me your GG. I am looking forward to meeting you, just to bond with you and enjoy our time together. You will have sisters and brothers to learn from and grow up with. Always obey your mother & father and enjoy being a kid it goes by really fast. May God watch over you always. I love you, GG" - GG

"Sat. Feb 18, 2023. To great grandchild #12: As I await to hear your parents announce God's chosen gender for you in this world, I am reminded of John 4:4 which says, "You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." Remember how much your family loves you! Your great gran." - Ruth Monroe

These messages are loving, inviting, empowering, I mean it was the textbook definition of what family means. Throughout both pregnancies, our families were very supportive. We were a new couple, newly engaged, and working hard to start a life together. It was not always easy merging our families especially after many previous failed relationships, but my family and his helped us get through some tough times.

Julius and I bit into the same cupcake that would reveal the gender of our baby at the same time and long behold... it was a blue. Was it a shock to me? Absolutely not. My fourth boy, great. At that point I was just praying for a healthy chubby baby boy.
